Anyway, what service is this? What country? What County? And what is it's purpose?

Merryside fire and ambulance service

Nope.
But I think you might know the answer you just have two typos. (Or you are just totally wrong :P)
1. Is the place.
2. Is 'fire and ambulance service' never heard of one of those in the UK. :P
Plus I want what it's used for.

I honestly didn't, I just googled queensland fire and rescue as you could see it on the side of the truck. :P

Right I'm going to add a twist. :)

So first where is it from, then I want the story behind it so basically obviously why it's green.

It's from Merseyside Fire and Rescue.
This is why it's green:

THIS is Merseyside’s new look fire engine.

Fire chiefs say they want to show its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint in a very public way.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "What better way of going green than by starting with the thing that symbolises the fire service better than anything else.

"By turning the fire engines green the public will be in no doubt how serious we are."

The Fire Service has an ongoing programme for replacing engines and from now on, instead of the traditional red engines, green ones will be ordered.

The first has gone on duty today (April 1).

So what it the special and funny thing about it?
Look at the date. :P
EDIT: I just found an extended quote:

“We might end up painting them with flowers, so they blend in with scenery, and we might end up replacing the blue flashing lights and alarms and going back to bells, like the old days.

Shows undoubtedly it was an April fool. :P

You're up! :12:
