Bad news.

My computer is broken. Although I didn't lose any files (love external hdd drives :1046276057_GroupHug:) I can't work on the mod for a while. :(

While playing a game (Empire Total War), I suddenly got a purple glow. The game looked like it was running in 256 colours for a moment. After 3 seconds I got a blue screen with white letters and a reboot. Since then, my computer doesn't want to load Windows Vista in normal mode anymore and I got weird display distortions (blue blocks, green wavy lines, white/purple letters during boot up). When the computer is suposed to load Vista (that loading bar is visible for a while) it starts hanging in a black screen with a lot of white small vertical lines. Safe Mode seems to works fine, but I also get the distortions in that mode. I am currently trying to find out what is damaged. I already tried to reinstall Windows Vista what didn't help, so I think it's my videocard but I am not sure about that. :nixweiss:

At this moment it is unknown when I can continue on the mod again. I have other computers, but they are way too old to handle the map texture for the new map (8096x8096 pixels with multiple layers) in Photoshop CS2. :nein:

That does sound like your video card,had the same crap happen to me.Got a new one and that fixed it right up.

Check is there any soot on videocard. Probably smth got burned up... :machkaputt:
IMO there is no way to repair it but if you have vaild warranty you should get new one ASAP.

So, what is it the fire fighters do? Do they wait a block away before going to the station to get the truck? Nope. 10 or 12 guys go into the Station, put their gear on, and 6 of them jump in the Pump. The rest, they stay in the building in case they need the Rescue. So, Pump 1 responds from 119 Bertie St to 119 Bertie St, but, they have to follow protocol. So, they drive around they block, and stage at the corner, waiting for police to clear the building they just left.

If he can't fix his computer, I vote we start a fund to ship over a few of the best computer technicians to fix his computer for him... No matter where they live, though it would be great if they lived down the road from him :)

Something is probably damaged permanently, although I was able to access Vista in normal mode for like 5 minutes before my screen got all f****d up again yesterday. I already checked the fans. I have two, one on my CPU and on the GPU (the vid card). The CPU one is definately running, but I can't see the GPU fan because the videocard is upside down.

For the interested. This was is my computer:

1 x AMD Athlon 64 x2 4000+
1 x NVIDIA Geforce 8800 GT (512 mb ram)
2 x 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM
2 x 360 GB HDD's
1 x Dual Layer DVD-ReWriter
1 x Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit

Bought it in March 2008

Sounds like its definitely a video card problem. (Side note: The video card snaps into the motherboard so therefore there is always the possibility of a motherboard fault, or CPU fault for that matter since Windows fails to load.) Best bet would be to replace the video card. Even if the video card fan is not working, if I am correct these are typically attached directly to the card, and replacing these would require a full card replacement. If you happen to have spare video cards, or know some1 that has some try replacing yours with these, even if they arent proper specs required for this game or modding, just to narrow the problem down.

Hope you figure it out and get it fixed. :onceldoc:
