Some fire departments use the green light to indicate that a ff/emt is riding on the vehicle.... not sure on chicagos reason though..... but green usually means emt on boardI think it's a modern addition to the CFD tradition back in the 1920's Fire Commissioner Goodrich's family also owned a steamship line. He was well aware of the required red and green lights on ships identifying their port & starboard sides, allowing for safe passing during inclement weather. The red and green lights were installed on fire apparatus and stations based upon this nautical theme.

the citys FD was founded by a bunch of sailors and railroaders...the green light signifies the vehicle is on your rightHum mmIII I wonder what the story is behind the C.F.D. green light?
