Well, if we all thought like Morgan Freeman, racism wouldn't exist. He doesn't believe in Black History Month because it just brings to light that blacks in America (and elsewhere) haven't had the same equality that many others have. Racism exists because we let it exist by continually bringing it up - he has publicly said that. It's true. The same is true for bullies and terrorists - you ignore them, they have no means to further their cause, and their existence becomes meaningless.

Well, the problem is, when most people hear the word racist, they think KKK kinda racists, they don't think the angry black man in whatever part of town that screams cuss words at the "whities" or the mexican that hates everyone white because they all think they're better than him (many will, but not all, so it does fall into racism). If it was a black guy shot a white guy, the story would be completely turned around, and he'd be hanged before the first news story.

I totally agree with Morgan Freeman (I mean he's been God) with the not liking black history month. I think it's pointless. It just perpetuates differences. "I'm so glad you people have come so far from slavery" I've heard that a dozen times or more.

Yes, knowledge of the past is good, but taking special time aside JUST to point out past differences, like the previous inequalities, well that's just plain stupid. Think Hitler for example, very few people talk about him probably having one of every type of mental disorder in the books, but instead just focus on how oppressed the jews have been since the beginning of time. Well, yeah, talk about them as oppressed, they'll be oppressed


Law or not, media or not, I think Zimmerman should do time for murdering Martin. I have no reservations in my head about that at all. He was not that advantaged over Zimmerman that murder was the only safe way out of that situation. Do I think Zimmerman will get a fair sentence? Hell no. Do I think they should be dicking around for so long? Double hell no. They should have had him on trial within a week, since a unbiased jury will be impossible to find now. Either that or wait a year to do it.

I personally think any law that allows me to kill someone, ever, is horrible, and should not be allowed. People just aren't smart enough to use it safely. Should self defense protections exist? Yes. If a jury found that your assault on said person, or even murder of said person was completely justified, and was only to the extent needed to ensure your life, and the lives of those you were protecting were safe, then, and only then should you be let go.

LOL. Morgan Freeman? He's a reliable mentor. Well, I for one do spend much time listening to what celebrities/actors say on television any more than what Paris Hilton might say when she knows the cameras are on her. Again, racism exists and there is no argument against that it's still with us today. But the argument is that it isn't the only source of our problems today. And just like there have been instances of white on black racist crimes, there have also have been many instances of violent black on white racist crimes. Do I dare mention some of these? I don't think that one form of racism is worse than another form of racism. Again, I also don't excuse one over the other. When I teach my students, I don't make any group get any special treatment over the other in my class. And each of the students respect each other better because of that. Bullies and terrorists come in shades of black too. My race is not better than your race and yours is not better than mine.

I'm still not so convinced he should do time, not because of my opinion but because it looks as if Florida law prevents him from doing so. Some form of imprisonment probably would have eased things in the communities but like you said, we're unfortunately well passed that now. I don't think he will be charged with second degree murder though. I just don't see that given current state of the case. Maybe there is some other information that has yet to be made public? But if he's acquitted of second degree murder, I believe we'll have another Rodney King public reaction in Florida.

That law won't be lasting long in Florida, since it's so vague, and it gives anyone the power to kill anyone, under the grounds that they felt threatened. He will probably get away with it, but do I think he should? Hell no.
