Ugly or not, the Dodge chassis with the Cummins engine is one of the most reliable vehicles on the market. I think most folks could care less what the rig that saves their life looks like anyway.

Also something I noticed is that most major city and county fire departments have one unit built just for funerals because the hose bed walls are too short to carry a supply line.That rig you see there is not actually the real E97. They just took one of the KME's at the shops and slapped number 97 on it for the funeral.

Honestly, the hi-viz stiping on the back of the new kme looks to me like it will have the same problem LAFD had with the new ALS rescues a while back. ALthough it doesn't show as much as the back of the rescue, it could pose a problem.

The current color is more of a darker yellow, while the old hi-viz is a brighter yellow and more like the ARFF color.

Ahh, now I see. Idk why but I had it in my head that this was the same as the first Hi-Viz. My mistake.
Makes you wonder if our agency is the only one to have this problem with the striping or if others faced the issue also..

I think LA city should have stayed with Ford and Pierce/Seagrave instead of Dodge and KME for their new engines and RAs.

Follow this link to get info and manuals about LAFD engines and trucks going back quite a ways. If you click the "truck spec chart" and the "engine spec chart" it gives you a good comparison.This is really excellent work! My uncle (also used this account) was a firefighter/paramedic there years ago and just recently died in the line of duty elsewhere and I never really got to question him about work there because I was also interested in his FDNY work. I have a few questions that I would really appreciate if I could find answers to them.
I'm not sure how familiar you are with the newer 2010 KME Severe Service Engines (Example being the current Engine 27) but I was wondering if the 2 1/2" attack hose was on the back hose bed on those rigs and if it is a pre connect.
I am also wondering what type of apparatus was used before the '96 Pierce Dash rigs. I have found a picture of one in service as Engine 201. The link to that picture is here - http://www.angelfire...ics1/LAFD0.html - and I think I was able to attach the picture to this reply.

Keep in mind that this guide is several years old and many parts of it are inaccurate or completely wrong. LAFD now has some new KME engines that aren't mentioned in this guide. They also have two new water tenders making the water tender section of the guide completely incorrect.Thanks Mikey for a good explanation with clarity. The photos and videos are nice.
