Most of the provinces have a sheriffs department mainly for court duties (except Alberta that does highway safety). Each province has it's own distinct liveries and duties of the sheriffs vary by province.

They do grow on you, especially in the right colours.Part of the reason North America is using them now is that Ford dropped the diesel option from the van chassis and the van itself will be discontinued in a few years. Also the Sprinter is a good low emissions, economical diesel engine.

I did not know that. Makes sense though.

Yeah neither did I. I still like the look of the big F450's though, but I do know that the Sprinters are very efficient.

The Sprinters made into a Type III (box with van cab on van chassis) they'd be ok, but the Type II (Van) are a pain, anybody who's taller or bigger around won't fit very well into the back of them.

As for Ford discontinuing the Econoline Van series, it will still be available for the next while as a gas engined cutaway van (cab, no body, used for ambulances, cube vans, etc). Diesel was discontinued in 2010, word on the street being because with the size of the engine compartment they couldn't fit a diesel engine meeting the new EPA requirements. The E-series' last production year is 2013, in the future it will be replaced by a full sized version of the Transit van with a diesel option. They will also be offering a cut away cab version of it for use with ambulances and the like.

Hope this fills in a few of the gaps.

Ok. that is true about how taller and bigger people can't fit inside though.

I changed the f-450 BC Sheriff's wagon out for a new F-650 in the new livery for the BCSS.
